Kittiwakes galore!

There are large numbers of Kittiwakes along the coast at present with 463 Kittiwakes counted flying west past Mumbles Lighthouse in a 1 hour seawatch this morning. There were also another 93+ Kittiwakes resting on the water in Swansea Bay. The Surf Scoter was still in Bracelet Bay with its 9 Common companions.

The passage continued throughout the day with a further 600 between 10:00 - 12:30 and slowing a little later with 250 between 12:30 - 15:30.

Paul Larkin counted 2160 passing over a similar time period (1015-1215 hrs). Not sure how these counts compare yet with previous years but the totals are certainly exceptional when compared to typical winters!

Just realised it was the day before he had this total - on the 25th he still counted 1250 between 0930-1130 hrs.
