Kentish Plover at Whiteford Point

Martyn Hnatiuk made a great find today at Whiteford Point (SS457963), this being about as far out as you can possibly get at Whiteford without going intertidal! This beautiful male Kentish Plover is the first in our area since one at Blackpill in 1970 and was roosting with a handful of Dunlin and Ringed Plover in the lee of the shingle ridge, just beyond the new finger of Marram. The most recent Glamorgan record was in 1981 at Kenfig Sands.

Great photos Barry - will save me about 20 pages of description :-). Hope it stays around for a while for others to see.

I'm sure you're ahead of me already Bernie, but if it's not at Whiteford tomorrow morning, then there's a good chance it could be on your patch!

Jeff, at this rate Martyn will break the record with months to spare. He told me he's now on 185; on the same date in 2003 I was on 180!

I should add that I wont begrudge him the record one bit if he finds a few more goodies like this along the way.
