Bitterns@KNNR today

I know it's not strictly in West Glamorgan but I thought I'd post a few photos of some of the three Bitterns that were strolling the channels in front of the South pool hide this morning.

Fabulous shots Jeff. I wonder if these birds are hanging around because of the fish Mike's been putting out for them? Love the shot of the two bird. Squaring up :o)

Stunning shots Jeff. I had one at the Saltmarsh yesterday. Just dropping into the reeds, nothing like the views on offer at the pool. Such an amazing bird, the markings and shapes they make are fascinating. Very nicely done.

Bazza it seems that the main birds to benefit from the fish are the crows, they don't miss a trick.
Jeff is the first bird looking in a mirror, that shot is worthy of front cover of the bird report.
Nice to see some behaviour rather than run of the mill photos , excellent stuff

Personally I have no experience with feeding Bitterns, but there are guidelines I have read, which if put into practice should ensure the Bitterns get a fair share of the spoils. I also understand that supplementary feeding is common practice at sites such as Leighton Moss and that many more birds would die without it. No doubt there are purists out there who'd enjoy a good debate about this, but personally I'd rather support people like Mike who are making an effort to help the birds survive.

Yes, I agree they should be fed, they are no different to the other birds we feed, except they like some fish rather than seed or scraps of meat used to feed kites
