The bulk of Black-tailed Godwits visiting the Burry Inlet are known to be of the Icelandic race
Limosa limosa islandica. That a nominate race bird ringed as a chick near Apeldoorn in 2010 appeared at WWT Llanelli this May, was as much of a surprise to the Dutch ornithologists operating the scheme as it was for Colin Wilkie, who spotted and reported the bird. Apparently this is the most westerly report from GB and is the first of their birds to turn up in Wales. Good work Colin!
