I'm afraid the blame lays squarely on the Spanish & Turkish Govts for allowing massive drainage of areas where W-HD used to breed.

Our little refugee was still present today hiding among a group of 43 Tufted Duck and 7 Pochard.
Still large numbers of WHD in Turkey though David.
So why are Defra still shooting our RD's?
They are still doing it because they haven't got much of a clue about anything
