Toothwort at Parkmill

(c) D. Roberts
Dai & Lynda Roberts recorded 10 flowering spikes of Toothworth (Lathraea squamaria) in Parkmill Woods on 7th April. This is a parasitic species associated with Hazel and Elm on calcareous soils and is very localised in the county.

Traditional sites in and around Cardiff are near Blackweir Wood in Bute Park under Hazel, and in the Warren, Caerphilly Mountain.

I have seen this at Hermitage Wood, Castle-upon-Alun in the past.
